Orpington Rotary and Orpington 1st are organising ‘Ways With Words’, a literary festival for Orpington running from 24th May to 6th June.  As well as a host of professional writers and celebrity guests, the festival will provide an opportunity for local organisations and individual members of our community to showcase their talents and interests.  Events will be hosted in a variety of venues across Orpington town centre and broadcast online.  They will include something for all ages, from poetry to cookery books, from fiction to journalism, reading corners and competitions.  Local groups and individuals are invited to host, perform or attend, and at the moment they are looking for presenters and book reviewers who’d like to take part.  All are welcome.  If you would like to be involved please email

Look out for further information at

Bookings will open for the online events at the beginning of May and we hope that you will enjoy being part of something new in Orpington.

We are delighted to inform you that the Council has approved our  plans for holding our annual Charity Plant Sale which will take place on the weekend of the 8th/9th May 2021 9:30am - 5:00pm
at 4 Felstead Rd Orpington BR6 9AB.

Many of you have supported us over the years, enabling us to send thousands of pounds to charities and we trust you will feel able to support us again this year.

In order to create as safe an environment as possible and in line with our risk assessment, we will not be taking orders, making deliveries or serving refreshments.

However, there will be a wide variety of bedding plants, small plants for pots, geraniums, perennials, herbs, some vegetables and other annuals available to buy.

We are only taking card payments, will be providing hand sanitizers and suggesting that you wear a mask and bring bags or boxes with you for the plants you purchase.

There will be volunteers around to talk you through the one-way system and give you any information you need.

In order to keep numbers to a safe level in the garden, you may be asked to wait a few minutes if the volunteers feel the garden has reached capacity.

We are very excited to be able to open and look forward to seeing you.

If you have any further queries, feel free to email us on

Best wishes

Margaret and David
