Helping those 'in need' is a demonstration of our faith.
The focus group meet periodically to consider and make recommendation on Charities that should be supported by the PCC. The APCM required the PCC to target to give an amount equal to 10% of its direct and indirect normal income each year to external charities. You are welcome to join us. See the magazine and website for the date of the next meeting.
CHRISTIAN AID remains a major supported charity, Christian Aid is a Christian organisation that insists the world can and must be swiftly changed to one where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. They work globally for profound change that eradicates the causes of poverty, striving to achieve equality, dignity and freedom for all, regardless of faith or nationality.
At the end of each year the Focus Group meet to consider the bi-monthly small change charities for the coming year. There are so many needs – it is not an easy task. We try to divide the appeals between home charities and those in other parts of the world. Most of the charities listed below, which we are supporting in 2017, are those we have supported in the past, and all are worthy causes.
JANUARY & FEBRUARY– THE LEPROSY MISSION
So many people affected by Leprosy experience injustice throughout their lives. Intense discrimination and the ignorance and fear of others can affect a person’s family life, livelihood and place in the local community.
MARCH & APRIL – CHURCH ACTION ON POVERTY
Works towards ending hunger in the UK. It is now forming a coalition campaign. Over the next 2 years, through ‘’End Hunger UK’, they will be working with national partner organisations to mobilise thousands of volunteers working in the community food projects across the country campaigning for change.
MAY & JUNE - MIND
Is a UK based charity who provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
JULY & AUGUST - WAR CHILD
A small International Charity that protects children from the brutal effects and consequences of conflict, providing emergency care and psychosocial support and help to cope with traumatic experiences.
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER – THE BRIDGE TRUST
Is a Charity working in and around Kent, providing a Bridge from homeless to independence for those adults falling through the Welfare network.
NOVEMBER & DECEMBER – WATER AID
Is an International Charity that transforms lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation.
